JIVITPUTRIKA FESTIVAL

 

  1. Jitiya (also called Jivitputrika) is a 3 day long Hindu festival celebrated from the 7th to 9th lunar day of Krishna-Paksha in Ashvin month. 
  2. The festival is celebrated in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand as well as Nepali people of West Bengal.
  3. The three-day long festival includes:
    1. First day is Nahai-Khai
    2. Khur-Jitiya or Jiviputrika day – mothers follow strict fasting for their children
    3. Third day Parana- mothers break fasting.
