JIVITPUTRIKA FESTIVAL
- Jitiya (also called Jivitputrika) is a 3 day long Hindu festival celebrated from the 7th to 9th lunar day of Krishna-Paksha in Ashvin month.
- The festival is celebrated in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand as well as Nepali people of West Bengal.
- The three-day long festival includes:
- First day is Nahai-Khai
- Khur-Jitiya or Jiviputrika day – mothers follow strict fasting for their children
- Third day Parana- mothers break fasting.
