- It is also known as Kanha–Kisli National Park.
- It is one of the tiger reserves of India and the largest national park of the state of Madhya Pradesh and in Central India.
- The park hosts fauna such as Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, sloth bear, barasingha (adapted to swampy areas) and dhole.
- The reserve has lowland forest of a mixture of sal (Shorea robusta) and other mixed-forest trees, interspersed with meadows.
- Indian ghost tree (Davidia involucrata) can also be seen in the dense forest.
- The land was an ancestral home of the Gond and Baiga tribes.
