  1. It is located in Vizhinjam, Kerala and has a natural depth of 18 metres.
  2. It is a deep-sea water port developed as India’s first Mega deepwater Transshipment Container Terminal.
  3. It is the only container transshipment hub in the Indian subcontinent closest to the international shipping routes, and is centrally located on the Indian coastline.
  4. The port will be able to handle container vessels with up to 24,000 TEU capacity.
  5. The port is being built on a public-private-partnership (PPP) mode with funding from the Kerala government, Centre and the Adani Ports Private Limited being the developer.
  6. It is also the first greenfield port project to receive viability gap funding from the government of India.
