20 Teams Finalized in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024

Twenty teams will compete in the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup. For the first time, Uganda qualifying for the senior ICC World Cup. The event will feature four groups of five teams each.

Uganda's cricket team achieved a ground-breaking feat by finishing in the top two of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa qualifier, earning a spot in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. The team made their debut in a senior ICC World Cup event with an impressive performance, especially in their recent nine-wicket victory over Rwanda for the first time.

Uganda demonstrated their cricketing skills by winning matches against Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, and Kenya prior to the historic victory. Uganda and Namibia are officially designated as the representatives of the continent following their top-two finishes in the Africa qualifier. Both teams will compete in the Men's T20 World Cup 2024, which will mark the first time in the competition's history that 20 teams will be competing.

ICC Men’s T20 World Cup: 2023 Match Plan

The T20 World Cup, which takes place in the USA and the West Indies in June 2024, will include 20 teams for the first time.

The teams will be split up into four groups of five this time. The top two teams from each group advance to the Super Eight stage, after which the remaining teams are divided into two four-team groups. Next, the top two finishers in each group advance to the semi-finals and final.

  • The first Cricket World Cup was held in 1975 in England, with the first three editions played as a 60-over format.
  • The tournament is now played as a 50 over format involving all test playing teams and other qualifying nations battling over a month.
  • Australia has won maximum of 5 World Cup titles so far including defending their crown in 2015. India and West Indies have won 2 each.
  • Sri Lanka won in 1996 defeating Australia in the final, which sparked public holiday celebrations across the island country with even LTTE rebels joining in festivities.
