Bharat 6G Vision and Mission 2030

Bharat 6G Vision is India’s ambitious roadmap to lead the world in next-generation telecom innovation and become a global co-creator in 6G technology. The vision aligns with the Viksit Bharat 2047 goal and focuses on creating a sustainable, affordable, and inclusive digital ecosystem.

The India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 highlighted India’s growing leadership in 6G innovation through the 2nd International Bharat 6G Symposium, a key event advancing the objectives of the Bharat 6G Vision. This event marked a major milestone in developing a self-reliant and globally connected telecom ecosystem under the Digital India 6G initiative.

Key Outcomes of the 2nd International Bharat 6G Symposium at IMC 2025

At IMC 2025, India showcased its commitment to the Bharat 6G Vision and its transition from a technology consumer to a global telecom leader.

One of the major highlights was the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration on 6G by global alliances such as Bharat 6G, 6G-IA (Europe), and ATIS Next G Alliance (North America).

Main Outcomes:

  • Recognition of 6G as a global public good.

  • Establishment of five core principles for the 6G network—trusted and secure, resilient and reliable, open and interoperable, inclusive and affordable, and sustainable and globally connected.

  • Call for skills development and global collaboration to build a future-ready 6G ecosystem aligned with Bharat 6G Vision 2030.

Economically, the India 6G roadmap aims to contribute USD 1.2 trillion to India’s GDP by 2035 and achieve 10% of global 6G patents. The event also showcased the indigenous 4G stack, a key achievement toward technological self-reliance and export readiness.

What is Bharat 6G Vision?

Launched in 2023, the Bharat 6G Vision aims to position India as a global leader and co-creator in next-gen telecom technologies. It aligns with the objectives of Digital India and Viksit Bharat 2047, ensuring that the benefits of the 6G network reach every citizen.

Key Objectives of Bharat 6G Vision:

  • Provide affordable and universal access to high-speed connectivity by 2030.

  • Strengthen indigenous research and innovation in India's 6G technology.

  • Ensure sustainability, security, and inclusivity in telecom growth.

  • Encourage international cooperation to align India’s 6G ecosystem with global standards.

The Bharat 6G Vision of India also aligns with the IMT 2030 framework by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which defines the standards for 6G network development worldwide.

Bharat 6G Mission 2030 and the Bharat 6G Alliance

To fulfil the goals of the Bharat 6G Vision, the government launched the Bharat 6G Mission 2030. This mission focuses on indigenous innovation, skills development, and R&D excellence to make India a global 6G powerhouse.

The Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) plays a pivotal role in implementing the vision. It is an industry-led and government-facilitated body that brings together:

  • Telecom operators, startups, academia, and R&D institutions.

  • Global partners like Next G Alliance (USA), 6G-IA (Europe), and 6G Forum (South Korea).

  • Over 80 member organisations working toward 6G research and development.

The Bharat 6G Alliance focuses on spectrum management, standardisation, and sustainable telecom infrastructure, ensuring that the Bharat 6G Vision drives the Digital India 6G transformation effectively.

Government Initiatives and Infrastructure Development

The Government of India has taken several steps to support Bharat 6G Vision and strengthen the 6G infrastructure India needs to become a global telecom hub:

  • Establishment of two advanced testbeds – the 6G THz Testbed and the Advanced Optical Communication Testbed.

  • Setup of 100 5G labs in educational institutions to prepare a 6G-ready workforce.

  • Approval of 104 research proposals on 6G network systems.

  • Launch of the Telecom Technology Development Fund (TTDF) to support domestic startups and rural connectivity projects.

  • Creation of the Technology Innovation Hub (TIH) at IIIT Bangalore under NM-ICPS to pioneer advanced communication systems for 5G+ and 6G.

These efforts strengthen the India 6G roadmap and demonstrate the country’s commitment to the Bharat 6G Vision.

Challenges in Implementing Bharat 6G Vision

Despite progress, India faces several challenges in realising the full potential of Bharat 6G Vision:

  1. Infrastructure readiness – the need for dense fibre networks and indigenous semiconductor capability.

  2. Limited R&D ecosystem compared to countries like China and the US.

  3. Spectrum and standards gap for terahertz (THz) frequencies.

  4. Talent shortage in AI, photonics, and telecom engineering.

  5. High deployment costs are widening the digital divide.

  6. Cybersecurity and data protection risks in high-speed 6G networks.

Steps to Ensure Successful Implementation of Bharat 6G Vision

To ensure the success of the Bharat 6G Vision, India must take the following steps:

  • Promote indigenous manufacturing through PLI schemes for telecom and semiconductors.

  • Expand skill development programmes in AI, IoT, and network engineering.

  • Develop a national spectrum strategy for THz frequencies.

  • Align 6G rollout with BharatNet and Digital India initiatives for inclusive access.

  • Encourage global collaboration and innovation to set worldwide 6G standards.

These steps will help India achieve the objectives of the Bharat 6G Vision and position the country as a leader in next-gen telecom.

Final Thoughts

Bharat 6G Vision represents India’s strategic roadmap to lead the world in next-generation telecom innovation and digital transformation.

Launched in 2023, it aims to make India a global co-creator in 6G technology by 2030, focusing on affordability, sustainability, and universal access. The vision aligns with Viksit Bharat 2047 and is supported by initiatives like the Bharat 6G Alliance, advanced 6G testbeds, and the Telecom Technology Development Fund.

Through global collaborations, indigenous research, and inclusive innovation, the Bharat 6G Vision seeks to transform India into a digital powerhouse, driving economic growth and technological self-reliance in the era of IMT 2030.
