Government Increases MSP on Jute, Assures 66.8% Returns for Farmers

The Centre has decided to raise the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for raw jute by Rs 315, fixing it at Rs 5,650 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing season.

The Centre has made a major decision to raise the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for raw jute by Rs 315, setting it at Rs 5,650 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing season. Approved by the Union Cabinet, this move aims to provide farmers with a 66.8% return over the all-India weighted average cost of production, encouraging greater investment in jute farming.

MSP Growth for Raw Jute Since 2014-15
Since the 2014-15 marketing season, the MSP for raw jute has consistently risen, increasing by 2.35 times. This steady rise reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to support jute farmers by ensuring fair compensation and motivating them to continue cultivating this vital crop.

MSP Increase for 2025-26 Season
The MSP hike for 2025-26 is notable as it exceeds the increase made in the 2024-25 season, when the MSP was raised by Rs 285 to Rs 5,335 per quintal. The Rs 315 increase for the upcoming season is expected to boost jute production and address India’s relatively low jute output.

National Health Mission (NHM) Extension
Alongside the jute MSP rise, the Union Cabinet has approved the extension of the National Health Mission (NHM) for another five years. The NHM has been vital in enhancing India’s healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

NHM Achievements
Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted significant achievements of the NHM over the past decade, including the addition of nearly 1.2 million healthcare workers to its workforce between 2021 and 2022. This expansion has strengthened the country’s capacity to deliver timely medical care, especially in rural areas. Goyal also emphasized the NHM’s essential role during the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly in vaccination efforts, healthcare service delivery, and public health awareness campaigns.
