Key Details of Justice Chandran’s Appointment

  • Supreme Court Collegium Recommendation: On January 7, 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice Khanna, recommended Justice Chandran's elevation. The recommendation pointed out the absence of a judge from the Kerala High Court in the Supreme Court at that time. Justice Chandran, the senior-most judge from the Kerala High Court, was ranked 13th in seniority among all High Court judges in India.
  • Career Highlights:
  •  Appointed as a judge of the Kerala High Court in November 2011.
  •  Elevated to Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on March 24, 2023.
  •  Originally recommended as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court in December 2022, but this recommendation was recalled in February 2023, and he was instead appointed Chief Justice of Patna High Court due to other vacancies.
  • Justice Chandran’s elevation to Patna High Court followed the vacancy created by the promotion of Justice Sanjay Karol to the Supreme Court. The Collegium emphasized his seniority, extensive experience, and suitability for the position.

Justice Chandran’s Tenure and Legacy
Justice Chandran will serve in the Supreme Court until April 24, 2028. He is the second judge appointed by the Khanna-led Collegium, following the appointment of Justice Manmohan in December 2024.
