Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, a 1994-batch IPS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been appointed as the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), a decision confirmed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on January 19, 2025. Aggarwal will serve in this role for four years from the date he takes charge or until further instructions, whichever comes first.

  • Promotion: On December 29, 2024, the Tamil Nadu government promoted Aggarwal, along with three other IPS officers, to the rank of Director General of Police (DGP).
  • Controversy: In June 2024, following the Kallakurichi hooch tragedy, which claimed over 60 lives, Aggarwal, who was then the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for the Enforcement Bureau, was transferred. He had previously overseen the Enforcement Bureau during a similar incident in 2023, where 22 people died from consuming counterfeit liquor in Marakkanam and Chengalpattu.
