Martin Guptill, New Zealand's renowned opening batsman, has officially retired from international cricket, marking the end of a remarkable 14-year career that began in 2009. Throughout his career, Guptill played 198 One Day Internationals (ODIs), 122 Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), and 47 Test matches, amassing a total of 14,877 runs across all formats.

Career Achievements:

  • ODIs: Guptill scored 7,346 runs in ODIs, ranking third on New Zealand’s all-time list. He holds the record for the highest individual score in a World Cup match, with an unbeaten 237 runs against the West Indies in the 2015 quarter-finals.
  • T20Is: In T20Is, Guptill accumulated 3,531 runs, making him the top run-scorer for New Zealand in this format.
  • Tests: Over 47 Test matches, Guptill contributed 2,586 runs, including three centuries and 17 half-centuries.


Notable Moments: One of the standout moments of Guptill’s career came during the 2019 World Cup semi-final against India, where his direct-hit run-out of MS Dhoni played a key role in securing New Zealand's spot in the final.

Plans for the Future: At 38, Guptill intends to continue playing in T20 leagues across the globe, where he will apply his vast experience and skills on the international stage.

Reflecting on His Career: Guptill shared his gratitude, saying, “As a young boy, playing for New Zealand was always my dream, and I feel incredibly fortunate and proud to have played 367 games for my country.” He expressed thanks to his teammates, coaches, family, and fans for their ongoing support throughout his cricketing journey.
