Nadella Reassures Musk on $500B Stargate AI Project

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella responded to Elon Musk's doubts about the $500 billion Stargate AI infrastructure project, reaffirming Microsoft’s strong commitment to the initiative.

Background of the Stargate AI Project

In January 2025, President Donald Trump introduced the Stargate project, a joint effort involving OpenAI, Oracle, Microsoft, and SoftBank to build AI infrastructure in the U.S. The project is expected to create numerous job opportunities and enhance the country’s technological prowess.

Elon Musk’s Concerns

After the announcement, Elon Musk expressed skepticism about the project’s financial feasibility, suggesting the participating companies lacked adequate funds. He specifically pointed out that SoftBank had raised “well under $10 billion,” questioning the project's ability to secure the necessary capital.

Satya Nadella’s Response

In a recent interview with CNBC, Nadella addressed Musk’s concerns, saying, “All I know is, I’m good for my $80 billion.” He stressed that Microsoft’s dedication to the project is firm and strong.

Elon Musk’s Clarification

Musk, acknowledging Microsoft’s financial strength, responded, “On the other hand, Satya definitely does have the money.” He added, “And all this money is not about hyping AI, but is about building useful things for the real world.”
