INTERNATIONAL Film & Music AWARDS

Oscar Award

International Oscar Award, also known as the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. This was introduced as a separate category in 1956, the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film represents the ultimate global recognition for non-English language cinema every year. Commonly known as the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, it is presented annually by the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for a non-English film released in the United States with English subtitles produced outside the United States.

While individual countries submit one film each year to represent their very best, the winner is selected through nomination and voting by a specialist committee within the Academy. Over 90 countries typically submit entries every year showcasing global diversity.

The iconic gold-plated Oscar statuette recognizing excellence remains the prize with recipients gaining access to the ceremony and ability to make an acceptance speech since 2020 reforms.

As Oscar's window to the wider world, the Best International Feature category boosts awareness of diverse filmmaking artistry and remains filmmaking's highest international honor since first awarded in 1957.

Total number of Oscar Award Winners till now

As per estimates, over 3,140 Oscar statuettes have been presented by the Academy since 1929 till the 2022 ceremony. However, the number of individual Oscar winners would be smaller as many of these would be repeat awardees over multiple years or co-winners within a single category.

Some analysis indicates that approx 2,800 individuals have won competitive Oscar awards in categories like acting, direction, writing, music etc over the year. This includes winners across over 500 Oscar ceremonies held so far by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The maximum number of competitive Oscar wins is held by Walt Disney with 22 total awards till date.

Golden Globes Award

Regarded as Hollywood’s biggest party, the Golden Globe Awards represent a prestigious honor in American television and film. First held in 1944, they are viewed as the kickoff to the entertainment industry awards season each year.

The Golden Globes are hosted by members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), an organization of international entertainment journalists and photographers representing media outlets across the world.

The awards event features recognition across both television and film split into Drama and Comedy/Musical categories spanning 25 competitive categories. Topping the honors is the 'Best Motion Picture' award for each section.

The instantly recognizable iconic trophy features a gold-plated globe wrapped in a film strip resting on a pedestal engraved with the HFPA seal. The ceremony is known for being more relaxed, filled with high glitz and glamour.

With awards distributed since 1944 setting the stage for the Oscar race, the tradition and history of the Golden Globes awards them a unique place in Hollywood's enduring legacy celebrating top-tier entertainment artistry.

Total number of Golden Globes Winners between 1944 - 2023

Golden Globes have been presented to winners across 25 categories annually except 1948, due to a strike. In the almost 80 year history since their inception, Golden Globe Awards have been given out to over 2000 recipients till date. However, the exact number of individual winners would be smaller as many achievers have won multiple Globes over the years.

As per available statistics, around 1500 individuals have won Golden Globe Awards since 1944. Among the winners, actress Meryl Streep holds the record for most wins at 8 Golden Globe awards over her prolific career.

Conceptualized in the 1950s to uplift music makers and elevate public taste, the first annual Grammy Awards ceremony telecast was in 1959 as a means to award and celebrate creative musical accomplishments across genres.

Over 100 specialized categories exist spanning rap, country, jazz, classical and global music where nominated entries are voted by Academy members. Top awards include the coveted Album, Record and Song of the Year. The iconic gilded gramophone statuette depicts the invention that made sound recording possible. Winners gain entry to the gala event filled with legendary performances where they are presented the award.

With over 60 ceremonies as of 2022 under its legacy celebrating sonic innovation and iconic songs, the Grammy Awards through public voting and expert evaluation continues its gold standard as music’s most coveted recognition wordwide.

Total number of Grammy Award Winners between 1959-2023

As one of the music industry's oldest and highest accolades, Grammy Awards have been presented to winners every year except in 1988 due to unusual circumstances. Over the years from 1959 till the 2023 ceremony, Grammy Awards have been given out to over 9,000 recipients. However, the exact number of individual Grammy Award winners would be smaller as many winners receive multiple awards over different years. According to available estimates, over 4,000 individuals have won Grammy Awards over the past 60+ years.

Among these, the person with most Grammy Award wins is classical conductor Sir Georg Solti with record 31 wins.

Cannes Film Festival

The Cannes Film Festival, founded in 1946, is an annual film festival in France that showcases new films from around the world. Originally held to recognize artistic achievement, it has evolved into an international marketplace for producers and distributors to exchange ideas, view films, and sign contracts. The festival has been a site of artistic contention, with debates between supporters and opponents of the French. The festival is usually held in May at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès and was formally accredited by the FIAPF in 1951. The first edition of the International Film Festival in Cannes was founded by Jean Zay, Minister for Education and Fine Arts, to rival the International Film Festival.
