Trinetra App 2.0: Smart Policing with AI

Launched in March 2024 by the Uttar Pradesh Police, Trinetra App 2.0 is a cutting-edge digital platform developed to revolutionize crime prevention, investigation, and law enforcement operations across the state. Built in collaboration with AI solutions company Stack Technologies, the app integrates advanced technologies to assist police personnel in real-time identification and analysis of criminal activities.

This upgraded version of the Trinetra App enhances policing efforts by digitizing critical criminal data and making it instantly accessible via mobile devices.

Purpose and Objectives

Trinetra App 2.0 was launched with the primary goal of strengthening security and surveillance across Uttar Pradesh. By providing law enforcement officers with instant access to criminal records and investigation tools, the app is designed to:

  • Identify suspects swiftly during field operations

  • Crack down on organized crime and repeat offenders

  • Improve operational efficiency during investigations

  • Enhance public safety through data-driven policing

Key Features of Trinetra App 2.0

The app comes packed with powerful features that provide a 360-degree view of criminal profiles:

  • Digitized Criminal Database: Over 9.32 lakh records including crime histories, FIR details, interrogation reports, incarceration information, reward status, photographs, and audio evidence.

  • Voice and Facial Recognition: Officers can input audio or visual data to identify suspects in real-time using AI-powered matching systems.

  • Mobile Accessibility: Available on both Android and iOS platforms, allowing field officers to retrieve or update data on the move.

  • Crime GPT Integration: A specialized AI feature that helps officers search and analyze crime-related data instantly. It also assists in adding seizure records and generating QR codes for confiscated items, streamlining documentation and case tracking.

Missing Persons Search

Trinetra App 2.0 also plays a vital role in locating missing individuals. By using facial recognition and photo-linking technology, it can cross-match a person’s image with existing police records and databases, significantly increasing the chances of reuniting lost individuals with their families.

Impact on Law Enforcement

Since its launch, Trinetra App 2.0 has had a transformative impact on policing in Uttar Pradesh:

  • Quicker Identification: Reduced the time needed to verify identities or gather background details.

  • Smarter Investigations: Enabled deeper analysis of gang affiliations and crime patterns using the Crime GPT feature.

  • Operational Efficiency: Field personnel can now access crucial data without waiting for manual database queries.

  • Enhanced Coordination: Supports collaboration among units by sharing uniform digital data across departments.

Implementation and Training

The app was officially launched by UP DGP Prashant Kumar, who emphasized its role in modernizing policing. The platform has been rolled out statewide and is accessible to all police units. Alongside the launch, structured training and orientation programs have been organized to ensure effective usage of the app by law enforcement personnel.

Future Developments and Expansion

Looking ahead, the app is expected to undergo further upgrades, including:

  • Expansion of AI capabilities

  • Integration with national criminal databases

  • Enhanced inter-departmental data sharing

  • Custom tools for cybercrime, narcotics, and terrorism cases

There are also plans for collaborations with other state and central law enforcement agencies, making it a scalable model for digital policing across India.

Final Thoughts

Trinetra App 2.0 marks a major milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s journey toward smarter and more efficient law enforcement.

By integrating advanced technologies like facial and voice recognition along with AI-driven tools such as Crime GPT, the app empowers police officers with instant, on-the-ground access to vital criminal data. It not only enhances the speed and accuracy of investigations but also plays a critical role in preventing crime and locating missing persons.

With over 9.32 lakh digitized records, Trinetra sets a new benchmark for digital policing in India. As it continues to evolve, the platform holds great promise for scaling up operations, improving inter-agency collaboration, and building a safer society through technology.
