What Makes Tripura a Leader in Literacy?

Earlier, literacy efforts focused only on helping individuals learn to sign their names. But Tripura has expanded the scope through modern educational reforms. The new model includes:

  • Foundational literacy and numeracy (reading, writing, math)

  • Life skills and vocational training

  • Digital literacy and continuing education

  • Regular literacy assessments and evaluations

A network of 943 Samajik Chetana Kendras and 2,228 volunteers plays a critical role in delivering education across the state.

Results of Literacy Assessment Tests

Tripura’s performance in national assessments shows the depth of its educational success:

  • March 17, 2024: 3,581 out of 4,597 passed

  • December 29, 2024: 13,909 out of 14,179 passed

  • March 23, 2025: 5,819 out of 5,896 passed

These figures support its position among the top educated states in the country and reinforce its reputation as one of the most literate states in India.
