The India Open 2025 badminton tournament wrapped up in New Delhi with outstanding performances from some of the world's best players. Paris 2024 Olympic champions Viktor Axelsen from Denmark and An Se-young from South Korea claimed impressive victories in the men's and women's singles events, respectively. Other categories also featured exciting matches and notable accomplishments. Below is a detailed overview of the event.

Viktor Axelsen Secures His Third India Open Title
In the men's singles final, Viktor Axelsen defeated Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu in straight games, 21-16, 21-8, at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall. This victory marked Axelsen’s third India Open title, following his wins in 2017 and 2019.

Axelsen’s Path to Victory
The final was expected to be a tough competition, particularly since Axelsen had lost to Lee in the first round of the Malaysian Open the previous week. Moreover, Axelsen had struggled in his quarter-final and semi-final matches during this tournament.
In the final, Axelsen began slowly, trailing 6-2 in the first game. However, he quickly adjusted by finding his powerful smashes and taking advantage of his opponent’s mistakes.
Lee initially targeted Axelsen’s backhand with aggressive shots, but Axelsen's ability to retrieve and apply pressure gradually turned the match in his favor. After winning the first game, Axelsen dominated the second game, securing a comfortable victory.

An Se-young’s Impressive Performance in Women’s Singles
The women’s singles final saw An Se-young dominate as she defeated Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong 21-12, 21-9. The match lasted just 39 minutes, further cementing An’s position as one of the top players in women’s badminton.

An Se-young’s Mastery
Heading into the match, An Se-young held a 9-0 record against Pornpawee, giving her a psychological advantage.
In the first game, An quickly built a commanding 11-4 lead and maintained her control throughout, demonstrating superior strategy. Pornpawee attempted to close the gap, but was unable to recover from An’s consistent attacks.
The second game was even more one-sided, with An taking an early 7-1 lead and never looking back, securing her second India Open title.

An Se-young’s Stellar Start to 2025
With this victory, An Se-young extended her perfect record in 2025, having won 10 consecutive matches without losing a game, including titles at both the Malaysia Open and the India Open.
