Since it honors the tactically sound and ultimately successful daring attack, known as "Operation Trident," that the Indian Navy launched on Karachi Harbor in 1971 during the Indo-Pak War. This decisive attack severely damaged Pakistan's naval forces and was crucial to India's eventual war victory. This historic event honors the courageous Indian Navy members who have put their lives in danger to defend their nation. Indian Navy Day: History

On December 4, the Indian Navy observes Navy Day to honor the Indian Navy's 1971 "Operation Trident," which involved the Indian Navy's attack on Karachi Harbor. The operation began in retaliation for Pakistan's airstrike against an Indian airbase in the western sector, known as operation Chengiz Khan. Through Operation Trident, the Indian Navy bravely responded bluntly to Pakistan's attack. The Indian Navy also conducted Operations Python and Cactus following Trident.

  • The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) issued a statement announcing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the Indian Navy Day celebration in Sindhudurg, Maharashtra, on December 4, 2023, and will also dedicate the 43-foot statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at Rajkot Fort.
  • Additionally, PM Modi will see operational demonstrations by aircraft, warships, submarines, and special forces from the Tarkarli beach in Sindhudurg.
  • The statement added that this is the first time a major event of this magnitude has not taken place at a major naval station.
  • The activities and accomplishments of the Navy are showcased in this exhibition, which was arranged by journalists in the Ernakulam district.
  • A chance for the general public to see Indian Navy warships and aircraft.
  • Students and naval doctors from the Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology (NIAT) perform community service at the Good Hope Old Age Home in Fort Karachi.
