  • The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Srinivasan's appointment effective from the date of joining until August 31, 2027, his superannuation date.
  • Srinivasan takes over from Nalin Prabhat, whose tenure as NSG chief was curtailed for a new assignment.
  • Prior to this appointment, Srinivasan served as the director of Bihar Police Academy, Rajgir.

Reassignment of Nalin Prabhat and Interim Leadership

  • Nalin Prabhat, also a 1992 batch IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre, reassigned as Special Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
  • Prabhat's tenure as NSG chief, initially set until August 31, 2028, was cut short for this new role.
  • He will take over from R.R. Swain, who retires on September 30, 2023.
  • Prabhat's distinguished career includes three Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Padak.
  • He has extensive experience in counter-insurgency operations, having led the Greyhounds anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh.
  • Following Prabhat's reassignment, Anish Dayal Singh, Director General of CRPF, was given additional charge of NSG until Srinivasan's appointment.
