Bengaluru Municipal Body Unveils Rs 19,930 Crore Budget for 2025-26

The Bengaluru municipal body (BBMP) has presented its biggest budget yet, with an ambitious outlay of Rs 19,930 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26. This budget, formulated under the Brand Bengaluru concept, reflects the city's growing needs and its vision for infrastructure, waste management, and urban development.

A Record-Breaking Budget

The latest budget marks a nearly 50% increase from the previous fiscal year’s Rs 13,408 crore. This jump has been made possible by an additional grant of Rs 4,000 crore from the Karnataka government, demonstrating the state’s commitment to the city's growth.

  • Property Tax: Rs 5,716 crore

  • Non-Tax Revenue: Rs 4,952 crore

  • World Bank Funding: Rs 500 crore

  • National Disaster Mitigation Fund: Rs 238 crore

Key Areas of Investment

1. Development & Infrastructure

  • Allocation: Rs 12,952 crore (~65% of total budget)

  • Bengaluru municipal body is prioritizing road development, bridge construction, and public transport improvements to accommodate the city's rapid urbanization.

2. Solid Waste Management (SWM)

  • Allocation: Rs 1,400 crore (7% of total budget)

  • A significant policy shift is the introduction of a solid waste management user fee along with property tax from 2025-26. This initiative by the Bengaluru municipal body aims to improve waste collection efficiency and ensure a cleaner city.

3. Operations & Maintenance

  • Allocation: Rs 1,968 crore (10% of total budget)

  • Maintenance of roads, sewage systems, and other infrastructure is a priority to support the city's expanding population.

4. Health, Education & Welfare Programs

  • Allocation: Rs 857 crore (4% of total budget)

  • Improved public healthcare, better school infrastructure, and welfare programs for underprivileged communities are key focus areas.

5. Administrative & Establishment Costs

  • Establishment Expenses: Rs 1,751 crore (9%)

  • Administrative Expenses: Rs 393 crore (2%)

  • Refund of Deposits & Cess: Rs 604 crore (3%)
