Justice Alok Aradhe Named Chief Justice of Bombay High Court

The central government has released a notification announcing the appointments of Justice Alok Aradhe as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.

The central government has issued a notification confirming the appointments of Justice Alok Aradhe as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. These transfers are part of an effort to enhance judicial leadership in two of India’s most prominent high courts.

Official Notification and Recommendations
The notification, issued on Tuesday, follows the Supreme Court Collegium's recommendations made on January 7, 2025. The collegium had proposed Justice Alok Aradhe's elevation to the Bombay High Court and Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya's transfer to the Delhi High Court.

Justice Alok Aradhe, aged 60, began his legal journey in 1988. With over three decades of experience, he has earned a distinguished reputation in the judiciary, especially in handling complex legal cases.

  • Madhya Pradesh High Court: Justice Aradhe was appointed an Additional Judge in December 2009 and became a Permanent Judge in February 2011.
  • Jammu and Kashmir High Court: He was transferred to the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, where he served as Acting Chief Justice from 2015 to 2018.
  • Telangana High Court: In 2023, he was appointed Chief Justice of the Telangana High Court, where his tenure saw significant rulings and administrative reforms.
