The oath was administered by Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, with notable dignitaries in attendance, including Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and judges of the Delhi High Court. Judges from the Delhi High Court, senior advocates, and government officials were present, emphasizing the importance of this judicial transition for the national capital. Early Life and Education

Justice Upadhyaya, born on June 16, 1965, in Muskarai, Uttar Pradesh, has had a long and dedicated career in law. He completed his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Lucknow University, a prestigious institution, and began his legal practice in May 1991. His early years laid the groundwork for his successful and lasting career in law.

Judicial Career
Justice Upadhyaya’s judicial journey began with his appointment as an additional judge of the Allahabad High Court on November 21, 2011. He was later confirmed as a permanent judge on August 6, 2013, showcasing his expertise and integrity. Over the years, he earned a reputation for delivering impartial and fair judgments.

A significant milestone in his career came when he was appointed Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court on July 29, 2023. His tenure there was marked by key decisions, reinforcing his position within the judiciary.

Appointment as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court
On January 7, 2025, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Justice Upadhyaya’s transfer to the Delhi High Court, and he was officially appointed Chief Justice on January 14, 2025, succeeding Justice Vibhu Bakhru, who had been serving as the acting Chief Justice. This appointment reflects the Supreme Court’s trust in Justice Upadhyaya’s leadership capabilities.
