Operation Sard Hawa: BSF Enhances Surveillance along Pakistan Border

The BSF has initiated a special operation named ‘Operation Sard Hawa’, starting on January 22, aimed at foiling infiltration efforts by taking advantage of the reduced visibility caused by the dense winter fog.

BSF Launches 'Operation Sard Hawa' for Republic Day Security

After Republic Day, the Border Security Force (BSF) has stepped up its vigilance along the India-Pakistan border near Jaisalmer to prevent any possible infiltration attempts. The force launched a special operation called ‘Operation Sard Hawa’ on January 22, designed to counter infiltration efforts by capitalizing on the reduced visibility caused by thick winter fog. The operation will run until January 29 and aims to enhance border security during this crucial period.

Objectives and Focus of ‘Operation Sard Hawa’

The main objective of Operation Sard Hawa is to thwart any infiltration attempts, as the dense winter fog creates ideal conditions for such activities. BSF Commandant Harbans Singh pointed out that this operation is part of the BSF's ongoing security strategy, which includes ‘Operation Garam Hawa’ during the summer to ensure consistent border protection.

While ‘Garam Hawa’ addresses challenges posed by extreme heat in the summer, ‘Sard Hawa’ is specifically tailored to tackle the low visibility during winter fog, making it harder to detect unauthorized border crossings.

During this operation, the BSF will enhance security using modern weapons and advanced technological tools to effectively monitor the border, even in low-visibility conditions. The use of such technologies is crucial for identifying and preventing intrusions, especially during the foggy winter season when conventional monitoring methods may be less effective.

Increased Presence and Patrolling

As part of the operation, the BSF has boosted its deployment and patrol activities along the border. Personnel from various sectors, including headquarters, will be stationed at key border posts. They will be equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry to ensure a robust response to any potential threats. Additionally, the BSF will employ advanced tools that allow them to see through the fog and enhance their ability to spot suspicious movements along the border.

The operation will also involve foot patrols, vehicle patrols, and camel patrols. Camel patrols are particularly important in rough terrain areas where vehicles can't easily reach. This approach has proven effective in past operations, ensuring comprehensive monitoring of remote border sections.

Role of Intelligence and Coordination with Other Agencies

The success of Operation Sard Hawa relies not just on physical patrolling but also on a strong intelligence network. The BSF’s intelligence wing will collaborate closely with other agencies to track and address any suspicious activity along the border. This collaboration helps ensure that all security threats are neutralized before they escalate.

In addition, the BSF will carry out continuous surveillance using drones, night-vision devices, and other modern technologies, which will be crucial for maintaining a clear view of the border during both day and night. Special attention will be given to police posts near the border to ensure no gaps in security.

Patrolling and Vigilance at the Border

A major element of the operation is constant patrolling by BSF personnel, ensuring a steady presence near the fencing that marks the India-Pakistan border. Officers and soldiers will be actively engaged in monitoring the area at all times. The patrolling teams will cover day and night shifts, leaving no opportunity for any infiltrators to cross the border unnoticed.

To further bolster security, the BSF will deploy additional personnel at key strategic points, ensuring comprehensive coverage and a visible presence that acts as a deterrent to potential infiltrators.

Key Goals and Strategic Significance of Operation Sard Hawa

The core objectives of Operation Sard Hawa include:

Strengthening Border Security

The BSF has significantly increased its weaponry and personnel along the border, making it more difficult for infiltrators to breach security.

Enhanced Soldier Deployment

With the added manpower and modern equipment, the BSF is ensuring constant and vigilant monitoring of the border.

Surveillance and Intelligence

A strong focus is placed on enhancing surveillance capabilities and cooperation with other intelligence agencies to detect and prevent infiltration attempts.

Dominance of the Border

The operation ensures a continuous BSF presence both day and night, serving as both a deterrent and an active security measure to safeguard the country’s borders.

In conclusion

Operation Sard Hawa is a crucial initiative by the BSF to strengthen border security and prevent infiltration attempts along the India-Pakistan border during the winter months. By leveraging advanced technologies, enhanced patrolling, and close intelligence coordination, the BSF aims to maintain a strong, vigilant presence to safeguard national security. The operation exemplifies the force's commitment to ensuring border protection year-round, adapting to seasonal challenges with precision and effectiveness.
