PM Modi Launches IIS Mumbai: Shaping India's Skill Future

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) in Mumbai, a project worth over Rs 7600 crore, aiming to create an industry-ready workforce for Industry 4.0. IIS is established through a Public-Private Partnership between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Tata IIS.

Inauguration and Vision

Courses and Facilities

  • IIS Mumbai is built on a 4-acre campus within the National Skill Training Institute in Chunabhatti.

The institute will initially launch six specialized courses:

1.  Advanced Industrial Automation & Robotics

2.  Industrial Automation Fundamentals

3.  Advanced ARC Welding Techniques

4.  Additive Manufacturing

5.  Electric Vehicle Battery Specialist

6.  2&3 Wheeler EV Technician

  • Advanced laboratories developed in partnership with over 15 global and Indian Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Students will gain practical experience using real industry equipment at an affordable cost.
  • Hostel facilities will be provided to enhance the learning experience.
  • Short-term courses in collaboration with industry partners like Fanuc India (Industrial Robotics), SMC India (Industrial Automation), and Taj Skyline (Culinary & Core Housekeeping).

Industry Relevance and Partnerships

  • IIS focuses on skills needed for Industry 4.0, including factory automation, digital manufacturing, mechatronics, artificial intelligence, data analytics, and additive manufacturing.
  • Graduates will be prepared for employment in new-age industries like EV manufacturing, AI, and robotics.
  • The institute's curriculum and training are designed to meet the evolving demands of the global economy.
  • Partnerships with over 15 global and Indian OEMs ensure that training aligns with industry needs.
  • Collaboration with companies like Fanuc India and Taj Skyline for specialized short-term courses enhances industry relevance.
  • On the same day, PM Modi also inaugurated the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) in Maharashtra.
  • VSK is part of a network of 30 centers nationwide using data and AI to improve educational governance and outcomes.
  • These initiatives collectively aim to enhance India's education and skill development ecosystem.
