PM Modi Launches Tribal Empowerment Scheme in Jharkhand

PM Modi launched the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA) and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) schemes in Jharkhand and Khunti, respectively.

Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DAJGUA)

  • Launched by PM Modi on October 2, 2024, in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand
  • Total outlay of Rs 79,156 crore (Central Share: Rs 56,333 crore, State Share: Rs 22,823 crore)
  • Aims to foster holistic development in tribal villages
  • Covers 63,843 villages, benefiting over 5 crore tribal people in 549 districts across 30 States/UTs
  • Focuses on 25 interventions implemented by 17 central government ministries
  • Targets critical gaps in social infrastructure, health, education, and livelihood
  • Based on learnings from PM-JANMAN, launched in November 2023

Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS)

  • PM Modi inaugurated 40 EMRS and laid foundation stone for 25 new ones
  • Total investment of Rs 2,834 crore for these schools
  • EMRS scheme launched in 1997-98, expanded significantly since 2018
  • Goal: One EMRS in every block with 50% or more ST population and 20,000+ tribal persons
  • By March 2026, 728 schools to be functional, educating 3.5 lakh tribal students
  • Budget allocation of Rs 28,919.72 crore for 2021-26

Significant improvements since 2013-14:

    • Budget increase from Rs 278.76 crore to Rs 6,399 crore
    • Functional schools increased from 123 to 474
    • Student enrollment rose from 34,365 to 1,23,847

PM-JANMAN (Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan)

  • Launched on November 15, 2023, in Khunti, Jharkhand
  • Three-year scheme with a total outlay of Rs 24,104 crore
  • Focuses on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs)
  • Aims to provide basic facilities, including housing, water, sanitation, and livelihood opportunities
  • Projects worth Rs 1,365 crore inaugurated or initiated, including:
    • 1,387 km of roads
    • 120 Anganwadis
    • 250 Multi-Purpose Centers
    • 10 school hostels
  • In 10 months, projects worth Rs 10,000 crore sanctioned
  • On September 17, 2024, PM Modi handed over 40,000 completed houses under this scheme
