The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, is a massive temple complex that spans nearly 70 acres and can accommodate a million devotees at once. The temple follows the ancient Hindu Nagara style, with intricate sculptures depicting Lord Ram's life.

Location and Area Details

The Ram Mandir is situated in the holy city of Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, which is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram. The temple complex encompasses a total area of nearly 70 acres across the city. Within this, the main temple structure itself spans about 2.7 acres or 54,700 square feet of land

The plot was part of the disputed Babri Masjid site until 2019 when the Supreme Court handed it over for temple construction. Due to the massive area, the complex can easily accommodate a million devotees at one time for a smooth darshan

Grand Architecture and Design

The temple's architecture follows the ancient Hindu Nagara style designed by architect Chandrakant Sompura. The entrance gate on the eastern side is in the Gopuram style reminiscent of Dravidian South Indian temples like Tirupati. Intricate sculptures depicting events from Lord Ram's life adorn the outer walls in line with Hindu temple art traditions. The main sanctum area is octagonal in shape whereas the overall layout uses a circular perimeter for optimal use of space. The interiors use exquisitely carved Paharpur stone sourced from Rajasthan known historically for its long-lasting strength and beauty

Majestic Dimensions

With a total height of 161 feet, the Ayodhya Ram Mandir stands tall at three times the elevation compared to other structures nearby. The length and breadth also spans an impressive 360 feet by 235 feet respectively. Multiple architectural tests confirm its stability and ability to last over 1,000 years with minimal maintenance. Five elevated domes sit atop the main temple along with a tower aligned to allow rays of sun inside to illuminate the murti.
