India has achieved 4th place in the Global Firepower Index 2025, reinforcing its prominent military position on the global stage. The ranking considers over 60 factors, such as manpower, resources, and geography. India follows the US, Russia, and China, with a score of 0.1184.

Global Firepower Index 2025: India Secures 4th Rank

India has consistently maintained its position as the fourth most powerful military in the world, according to the Global Firepower Index 2025. This ranking highlights India's robust military capabilities, placing it just behind the United States, Russia, and China.

About the Global Firepower Index

The Global Firepower Index assesses the conventional military strength of 145 countries across land, sea, and air. It evaluates more than 60 factors, including manpower, resources, finance, and geography, but does not take nuclear capabilities into account.

India's Position in the Global Firepower Index 2025

India retains its fourth-place ranking in the 2025 Global Firepower Index, with a score of 0.1184. The index ranks countries based on over 60 parameters, including manpower, natural resources, finance, and geography, where a score of 0.0000 would represent an ideal military strength (which no country achieves). The top ten nations in the 2025 ranking are:

  1. United States – Score: 0.0744
  2. Russia – Score: 0.0788
  3. China – Score: 0.0788
  4. India – Score: 0.1184
  5. South Korea – Score: 0.1656
  6. United Kingdom – Score: 0.1785
  7. France – Score: 0.1878
  8. Japan – Score: 0.1839
  9. Turkey – Score: 0.1902
  10. Italy – Score: 0.2164

India's Military Strength

India’s high ranking can be attributed to several key factors:

  • Manpower: India leads globally in the number of individuals reaching military age each year and ranks second in overall available manpower.
  • Resources: The country has substantial natural resources, which contribute to its military strength.
  • Geography: India's strategic location plays a key role in its defense capabilities.

However, India faces challenges in areas such as oil, natural gas, coal consumption, external borders, and external debt. It also ranks 145th in terms of helicopter carrier strength and mine warfare capabilities at sea.

Comparison with Neighboring Countries

In the 2025 ranking, Pakistan has fallen from 9th to 12th place, indicating a decline in its military strength compared to previous years.

China, on the other hand, maintains its stronghold at the third position, reflecting its continued advancements in military technology and defense capabilities. Meanwhile, other neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Sri Lanka rank significantly lower, emphasizing the considerable gap in military power between India and its regional counterparts.

India's steady position in the Global Firepower Index underscores its ongoing military modernization efforts, strategic defense initiatives, and commitment to maintaining regional security.
