NHAI Hikes Toll Charges by 4-5%

NHAI Hikes Toll Charges by 4-5% Across National Highways

April 1, 2025: Commuters on national highways will now have to pay higher toll fees as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) hikes toll charges by 4-5% starting today. The revised rates have been implemented across 855 toll plazas, affecting key expressways and highways across the country.

Why NHAI Hikes Toll Charges?

The annual revision of toll charges is linked to wholesale price index (WPI) inflation and is implemented every year on April 1. According to a senior official from the highways ministry, the hike is necessary to maintain highway infrastructure and support the expansion of India's growing road network.

Key Expressways Affected

  • The toll increase will impact major routes, including:

  • Delhi-Meerut Expressway

  • Eastern Peripheral Expressway

  • Delhi-Jaipur Highway

  • Several other national highways

Impact on Commuters

The toll hike is expected to increase travel costs for daily commuters, logistics companies, and transport operators. The hike may also lead to higher transportation costs for goods and services, indirectly affecting consumers.

Toll Collection in India

Out of the 855 toll plazas, around 675 are public-funded, while 180 are operated by private concessionaires. NHAI revises toll rates separately for each expressway and national highway.

Conclusion

As NHAI hikes toll charges, motorists will feel the pinch of increased travel costs. While the revision supports better road infrastructure, it raises concerns about the growing burden on commuters. Authorities urge travelers to check the latest toll rates before planning their journeys.
