PRAGATI Meeting Highlights


Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his capacity as the chairperson of the PRAGATI meeting, reviewed eight major development projects during the 46th edition of the meeting.

These projects, spread across various sectors, have a total cost of approximately Rs 90,000 crore. The review focused on ensuring timely implementation and addressing any potential issues related to the progress of these projects.

What is the PRAGATI Platform?

The PRAGATI platform, which stands for Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, is a crucial initiative for enhancing coordination between the Centre and state governments. 

The platform helps track the progress of government schemes and projects, ensuring efficient execution and resolving any challenges faced by the stakeholders.

Review of Eight Significant Projects

The eight projects discussed during the meeting include initiatives in various sectors like road development, railways, ports, shipping, and waterways. Specifically, the meeting covered:

  • Three road projects

  • Two railway projects

  • Two-port, shipping, and waterways projects

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana:

In addition to the infrastructure projects, the PM reviewed the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), which focuses on providing financial assistance to pregnant women and lactating mothers. 

Modi emphasized that the identification of beneficiaries should be done using biometric-based Aadhaar authentication to ensure transparency and accuracy in disbursing the benefits.

Furthermore, PM Modi directed that more programs related to child care, health, and hygiene be incorporated into the PMMVY to improve the overall well-being of mothers and their newborns.

Holistic Urban Planning for Ring Roads: 

One of the infrastructure projects reviewed involved the development of a ring road. 

The Prime Minister stressed that the development of the ring road should not be viewed in isolation but should be integrated into the broader urban planning efforts of the city. 

He suggested that the city’s growth trajectory over the next 25 to 30 years should be considered to ensure the ring road supports future urban needs.

Circular Rail Network and Sustainable Public Transport: 

PM Modi also discussed the integration of a circular rail network within the city’s transport system. 

This sustainable solution would complement existing public transportation infrastructure, ensuring better connectivity and reducing congestion in urban areas.

Jal Marg Vikas Project: 

The Jal Marg Vikas Project, an initiative to develop inland waterways, was also reviewed. The Prime Minister suggested that the development of inland waterways could drive cruise tourism and create opportunities for local business development. 

He also emphasized the importance of creating a strong community connection along the waterways to boost tourism and provide business opportunities for artisans and entrepreneurs, particularly those associated with the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative.

Overall Impact on India’s Infrastructure: 

PM Modi pointed out that projects like these play a significant role in India’s infrastructural development. 

He reiterated that such projects must be developed holistically to ensure sustainable growth while creating jobs, improving public transport, and enhancing economic opportunities for local communities.

PRAGATI Meetings: A Long-standing Tradition of Development

Since its inception, PRAGATI meetings have played a crucial role in the efficient implementation of government projects. 

Throughout 370 meetings, nearly Rs 20 lakh crore worth of projects have been reviewed, making PRAGATI a vital tool in achieving the government’s developmental goals.

Through this platform, Prime Minister Modi has consistently emphasized the importance of timely project execution and resolving bottlenecks that could delay the benefits reaching the people. 

The projects reviewed during the 46th PRAGATI meeting are expected to have a substantial impact on the development of key infrastructure across India, contributing to economic growth, improved transportation, and enhanced social welfare.

Final Thoughts

PM Modi’s review of these eight major projects reaffirms his commitment to the timely implementation of developmental initiatives and improving governance across the country.
