Reappointment of Ajit Doval as National Security Adviser-NSA

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reappointed Ajit Doval as the National Security Advisor (NSA) and PK Mishra as the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. These appointments, effective from June 10, are co-terminus with the Prime Minister's term or until further orders.

Ajit Doval's Extended Tenure as NSA

Ajit Doval's reappointment as the NSA is particularly noteworthy. A former director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), Doval has been serving as the NSA since 2014 and is widely regarded as one of Prime Minister Modi's most trusted aides. His extensive experience in national security affairs and his reputation as a skilled strategist have solidified his position at the helm of India's security establishment.

Born on January 20, 1945, Doval is a former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Kerala cadre. He has had a distinguished career in intelligence and covert operations, spending significant time as an undercover agent in Pakistan and serving in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. His operational successes include Operation Black Thunder in 1988, the rescue of 46 Indian nationals in Iraq, and operations against militants in Nagaland. Doval holds the distinction of being the first police officer to receive the Kirti Chakra, India's second-highest peacetime gallantry award.
