Smriti Irani and Shekhar Kapur Appointed to PM Museum Council

The leadership team of the Prime Ministers' Museum & Library (PMML) has been restructured, with Nripendra Mishra returning as chairperson. New members, including Union Minister Smriti Irani, filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, and economist Rajiv Kumar, bring a range of expertise to the team.

The Prime Ministers' Museum & Library (PMML) has undergone a major restructuring of its society and executive council, appointing several prominent figures to its leadership. Nripendra Mishra, the former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, has been reappointed as chairperson for another five-year term.

Expansion of the Executive Council
The executive council, which previously had 29 members, has now been expanded to 34, aiming to bring in a wider range of expertise and perspectives.

Notable New Members

  • Smriti Irani: Former Union Minister, contributing political and administrative experience.
  • Shekhar Kapur: Acclaimed filmmaker, providing cultural and artistic insights.
  • Rajiv Kumar: Former Vice-Chairman of NITI Aayog, offering economic and policy expertise.
  • Syed Ata Hasnain: Retired Army General, bringing strategic and defense knowledge.
  • Vasudev Kamath: Linked with Sanskar Bharati, enhancing cultural representation.

Continuity and Change
While Nripendra Mishra remains chairperson, some previous members, including former Union Minister Anurag Thakur and journalist Rajat Sharma, have not been reappointed. This reshuffling reflects a strategic move to introduce fresh perspectives into the institution's leadership.

Historical Context
The PMML, which was renamed in 2023 from the Nehru Memorial Museum & Library (NMML), now aims to honor the legacies of all Indian Prime Ministers. This reorganization aligns with the government's goal to position the institution as a comprehensive archive of India's political leadership history.
