In 2025, Uttar Pradesh marks its 76th Foundation Day, with grand celebrations scheduled from January 24 to January 26 at Awadh Shilp Gram in Lucknow. Let’s explore the historical significance, achievements, and contributions of Uttar Pradesh on this special occasion.

The Historical Evolution of Uttar Pradesh

The Formation of United Provinces

Uttar Pradesh's modern history began in 1902 during British rule when the North-Western Provinces were renamed the United Provinces of Agra and Oudh. That year also saw the administrative capital shift from Allahabad to Lucknow, marking the region’s rise in political and cultural prominence.

Post-Independence Integration

After India’s independence in 1947, the United Provinces became an administrative unit. In 1949, the princely states of Tehri Garhwal and Rampur were integrated, and on January 24, 1950, the state was officially renamed Uttar Pradesh, coinciding with the adoption of the Indian Constitution.

Revival of Uttar Pradesh Day

Although Uttar Pradesh Day was first observed in 1989, it was discontinued when the Samajwadi Party opposed it. The tradition was revived in 2017 by the Yogi Adityanath government, and since then, the day has been celebrated with enthusiasm.
