Trent Boult retirement: Farewell of New Zealand Cricket Icon

Trent Boult, a left-arm seamer for New Zealand, announced his retirement from international cricket after the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Trent Boult announced his retirement from international cricket after New Zealand's final group match against Papua New Guinea at the 2024 T20 World Cup. The left-arm seamer has been a cornerstone of the Black Caps' bowling attack for over 13 years, representing his nation in all formats of the game – Tests, ODIs, and T20Is.

Boult's remarkable career saw him feature in numerous ICC tournament finals, including the 2021 World Test Championship final against India, the 2019 ODI World Cup final against England, and the 2021 T20 World Cup final against Australia. His unwavering commitment and exceptional performances have etched his name among the greats of New Zealand cricket.

Remarkable Bowling Feats and Records

Trent Boult's numbers speak volumes about his impact on the game. In his illustrious Test career spanning 78 matches, he has taken 317 wickets, making him the fourth-highest wicket-taker for New Zealand in the longest format, behind legends like Richard Hadlee, Tim Southee, and Daniel Vettori.

His ODI record is equally impressive, with 211 wickets from 114 matches, while in T20 World Cups, he has claimed 34 wickets, placing him among the top 10 wicket-takers in the tournament's history. Boult's ability to swing the ball both ways and his mastery of the yorker made him a formidable force, often forming a lethal partnership with his long-standing new-ball colleague, Tim Southee.

A Bittersweet Farewell and Legacy

Boult's retirement came amidst a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign for New Zealand, where they failed to progress beyond the group stage. His final outing at the T20 World Cup was a bittersweet moment, as he reflected on his career with a mix of pride and regret.

"It's a little bit weird. I wanted to sign off with the yorker. I am proud of what I have done in the Black Cap. Just gutted we're not going any further," Boult shared after his final match. Despite the disappointment, he cherished the honor of representing his country, stating, "Any time you get to represent the country, it's a proud moment."

As Trent Boult bids farewell to international cricket, he leaves behind a legacy as one of New Zealand's greatest fast bowlers. His departure marks the end of an era, but his contributions will forever be etched in the annals of New Zealand's cricketing history.
