The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) is the constitutional authority responsible for recruiting candidates to various civil and departmental services under the Government of Tamil Nadu. Established in 1929 as the Madras Service Commission, it is one of the oldest Public Service Commissions in India. TNPSC plays a key role in maintaining a transparent, efficient, and merit-based recruitment process that strengthens the administrative framework of the state.

The TNPSC Group 1 Examination is one of the most prestigious competitive exams in Tamil Nadu. It is conducted to recruit candidates for senior Group A and Group B executive and administrative positions in the state government.
The examination evaluates a candidate's academic proficiency, leadership qualities, analytical skills, and awareness of governance, public issues, and socio-political affairs at both the state and national levels.
The exam consists of 3 important phases
- Preliminary Exam (Objective Type - Screening Test)
- Mains Exam (Conventional Type, i.e. Written examination)
- Personality Test

Paper I : Tamil Eligibility Test (SSLC Standard).
Paper II : General Studies Paper I (Modern History of India and Indian Culture, Social Issues in India and Tamil Nadu, General Aptitude & Mental Ability).
Paper III : General Studies Paper II (Indian Polity and Emerging Political Trends, Public Administration, Governance and Welfare Programs, Role of Tamil Nadu in Indian Polity).
Paper IV : General Studies Paper III (Indian Economy and Current Trends, Science and Technology Developments, Environment and Disaster Management, Data Interpretation and Analysis).
